According to GuestMetrics LLC, which collects check-level data from Point-of-Sales systems from more than 10,000 restaurants and bars, on-premise trends moderated through early September, while sprits growth improved.

Beer unit share was down 1 percent in the last four weeks, wine share was flat, and spirits share was up 1 percent.

Total alcohol units sold were down 2.2 percent. Beer unit growth fell 4.3 percent, while craft beer’s share gains increased 0.8 percent. Premium light selections fell 1.4 points. Imports gained 0.2 percent, driven by strength in Mexican imports, and cider raised 0.1 percent.

Spirits unit growth gained 0.3 percent. Segments gaining year-over-year share of spirits are Tequila, Irish, Gin, Brandy, and Canadian, at the expense of Bourbons/Blends, Rums, Cordials, and Scotch. Vodka shares were flat. Domestic craft spirits gained 2.9 percent.

Wine volumes were down 1.5 percent. Cabernet Sauvignon, Prosecco, Sauvignon Blanc, Red Blend, and Moscato were the largest year-over-year volume share gainers, while the largest share donors were Merlot, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Zinfandel.
