Chef Sammy Davis Introduces Milk & Honey Cafe

Winner of the Food Network’s hit show “Chopped” and winner of DC’s Best Main Dish, Chef Sammy Davis introduces a unique concept entitled “global cuisine.” He takes tried-and-true favorites like his 5x Award Winning Shrimp & Grits recipe and adds it to a menu that includes items such as Philly Cheese Steak Biscuits to Maryland Style Crab Benedict, to Vanilla Cognac French Toast, and everything in between. Milk & Honey Café, a vibrant and cozy eatery on the corner of Rhode Island Ave and Baltimore Ave, opened its doors to a packed house on October 9, 2016. Chef Sammy manages to take you on a trip around the globe; all in this quaint café on a busy intersection in Beltsville, Maryland.

You walk through the doors and immediately feel at home. Every detail was purposeful and carefully planned with the community in mind. The space boasts communal tables to encourage sitting with your neighbor, several two and four tops perfect for enjoying your coffee and perhaps a nice Strawberry Crunch Cupcake.

Some appealing concepts are free coffee to every dine-in guest and a “Wait Dish” offered for just $4. The fact that a Wait Dish is even required speaks to the tone on the weekend. Saturdays and Sundays the wait can be anywhere between 1 ½ to 3 hours but it is all because Milk & Honey Café serves food that is “worth the wait”. Breakfast and brunch is served all day Tuesday to Sunday starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m.

In addition to a wonderful and vibrant brunch menu, Milk & Honey provides its space for private events every day after 5 p.m. and provides catering services as well that are not restricted to the regular menu. Chef Sammy creates menus for every occasion, and every palette and most  importantly every budget. Milk & Honey is the answer to an obvious need in the community for commuters, students and retirees alike.

When asked about the name of the café and meaning behind it, Chef Sammy says, “The name for me, as mentioned in the Bible has symbolized a promise from God for all people. Coming out of poverty, I 100 percent always believed that God was going to bring me to a place that was flowing with Milk & Honey. The name means everything to me. It symbolizes the best, so therefore I offer my best food.”

“Everything in this place has a story to tell, including the owners,” co-owner Monique Rose says. “And the story of this restaurant is tied to our story, and the story of many in the community. We wanted to bring something refreshed, revitalized and bursting with energy, and Milk & Honey does just that. The concept for our cuisine is deeply rooted in health and happiness. We want people to be able to dine here daily and be better for it.”
