Plant-based restaurant, Planta, is making its way to Miami Beach after partnering with David Grutman. The popular Toronto restaurant will open its first U.S. location in Miami Beach’s South of Fifth neighborhood on Thursday, February 22 by hosting a dinner hosted by Chloe Coscarelli and Planta Chef David Lee during this year’s Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival. Regular dinner operations are to follow on Friday, February 23. Planta will offer locally sourced, high-quality and 100 percent plant-based fare in an expansive, bright and environmentally-conscious location.

Acclaimed Executive Chef David Lee will helm the kitchen at Planta with plant-based dishes including Coconut Ceviche, Avocado, Corn Nuts, Lime and Tortilla Chips; Korean Fried Cauliflower Lettuce Wraps, tofu, kimchi, pickled cucumber and toasted nori; and The Frenchie Pizza, Truffle-Scented Mushrooms, Arugula, Cashew Mozzarella, and Almond Parmesan. Salads and other dishes at Planta will be made with the highest-quality vegetables handpicked from Planta’s own rooftop farm. A unique plant-based sushi bar will offer a variety of hand rolls, wraps, sushi and nigiri. In addition, cold-press cocktails, juices and shots will be made of the most unique and masterful flavor combinations never seen before in plant-based cuisine.

With an elevated yet relaxed atmosphere, the 200-seat restaurant will feature two indoor dining rooms and outdoor terrace seating. One of Planta’s intimate dining rooms will boast black and white flooring, natural light from the numerous ceiling skylight cutouts, hexagonal-tiled walls as well as seafoam green accent walls. A dedicated plant-based sushi bar and a full bar will complete the space. The second dining room, a connecting double-height barn-like structure, will be lined with large-format windows and made of white-washed oak reclaimed from a 1926 rooming house giving the space an angelic glow. Available for full buyouts and equipped with an additional bar, the expansive structure can accommodate large-scale private parties of 200 standing or 100 sitting. Planta’s unique new destination will be versatile in its private dining and event space capabilities.

Planta will be joining two impressive and exciting teams—David Grutman’s portfolio of world-renowned brands including LIV, Story, Komodo and OTL, and Chase Hospitality Group’s portfolio of Toronto’s top restaurants.  The restaurant will blend Chase Hospitality Group’s ongoing commitment to the environment and David Grutman’s stellar lifestyle brands.  Planta’s mission is to deliver sustainable, high-quality and responsibly sourced ingredients through delicious food while minimizing the environmental footprint at every price point.

“We’re so excited to partner with Chase Hospitality Group on bringing Planta to South Florida,” David Grutman says. “Eating a plant-based diet is more than just a trend, it’s a lifestyle, the way the world is moving. Simply put, people want to know where their ingredients and food are coming from while being socially conscious. Planta is raising the bar and featuring its own rooftop garden—I mean how cool is that? Planta is going to be everyone’s new favorite spot, not just for those eating plant-based.”

The restaurant will be located at 850 Commerce Street in the trendy South of Fifth (SoFi) neighborhood and will be open for dinner seven days a week from 5pm–close.
