Introducing Rabbit Hole Bourbon

Louisville, Kentucky, is the city where bourbon has been proudly crafted according to tradition for generations. Rabbit Hole is where new traditions come to life. And once you go down the rabbit hole, there’s no going back.

Born in 2012 by Founder & Whiskey Maker Kaveh Zamanian, Rabbit Hole Distilling introduces a forward-thinking approach to bourbon making, while paying homage to the time-honored tradition of the craft. Rabbit Hole stands firmly on the essence of inclusivity, promoting a sense of pride in this native spirit and bringing a burst of “un-traditionalism” to American whiskey culture. A self-proclaimed outsider in the bourbon community, Zamanian was inspired by the opportunity to modernize the industry. And now, the rabbit hops onto the market beginning with select regions including Illinois, Kentucky, and Nashville with launches coming soon in Memphis, Indiana, Wisconsin, Georgia and more, with three signature bottles, Four-Grain Kentucky Straight Bourbon, Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey, and Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in PX Sherry Casks (Fingerprint Edition).

Rabbit Hole emerges with an unconventional philosophy right in the heart of Louisville’s urban bourbon trail. With Zamanian steering the ship, Rabbit Hole unifies heritage techniques with innovative mash bills, creating three unique expressions of American whiskey redefining the native language.

Zamanian fell for bourbon while falling for his wife, a Louisville native, who lured him away from Scotch and introduced him to the progressive vibrancy of Kentucky, and bourbon. Leaving his established psychology practice as a certified psychoanalyst, he turned his attention to the world of craft spirits and forged a new dream, to become not only a whiskey maker, but also one who challenges the norm. He followed his passion, moved to Louisville, and imagined a new goal – to deliver a new model of whiskey making embracing long-established customs all the while turning bourbon culture on its side with modern practices and flavor.

With an inaugural collection of three specialty whiskeys, each symbols of “individualism, self-sufficiency, and living life to the fullest,” Rabbit Hole Distilling unabashedly encourages a life of adventure, taking drinkers from black and white into a new world of vivid color. Partnering with Louisville staple Kelvin Cooperage, Rabbit Hole’s distinct flavors and beautiful amber color come from the wood burned, flame charred barrels.

Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

The keystone product of Rabbit Hole Distilling, the Four-Grain Kentucky Straight Bourbon, epitomizes the best of the bourbon world—spectacular explosions of malted flavors—with a subtly sweet recipe twist. With a one-of-a-kind mash bill of 70 percent corn, 10 percent malted wheat, 10 percent honey malted barley, and 10 percent malted barley, this sipping bourbon is the only product on the market with barley as the secondary flavoring grain, offering a unique expression of traditional whiskey.

Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey

A whiskey variation that drinkers will remember long after it leaves their glass, the Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey is a bold representation of the best of the rye movement. Robust and strong, the spirit is comprised of 95 percent rye and 5 percent malted barley, and distilled and aged in Kentucky. It’s a true, genuine example of a rye that packs a punch.

Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in PX Sherry Casks – Fingerprint Edition

Showcasing the art of finishing and blending in whiskey, Straight Bourbon Whiskey with a wheat mash bill is first aged for five years in #4 char barrels.  It’s then aged and finished in hand-selected, 30-year-old PX sherry casks from Spain, pouring a smooth and balanced spirit.  Coined a Fingerprint Edition* PX Series, this one-of-a-kind blend by Rabbit Hole is an example of modern bourbon at its most refined with a mash bill of 68 percent corn, 18 percent wheat, and 14 percent malted barley.

London Dry Gin-Kentucky Rye Barrel Finished—Fingerprint Edition (coming soon)

This London Dry Gin is imported from England and is aged in Rabbit Hole’s Kentucky Rye barrels. It’s the perfect base for anything from a martini to a Negroni.

*Rabbit Hole’s Fingerprint Editions are small batch, limited releases showcasing Zamanian and his team’s hand in the art of finishing and blending sourced spirits.

THE DISTILLERY (Opening Winter 2018)

The forthcoming Rabbit Hole Distillery is a new experience for guests to uncover this innovative bourbon. Set in Louisville on the 700 blocks of Jefferson and Market streets, the new distillery is designed by award-winning architect Doug Pierson, and is a place to showcase the identity, tradition, and legacy of bourbon making in Louisville and Kentucky. Enlisting the help of fourth generation craftsmen at Vendome Copper & Brass Works to build a 24-inch copper column still and other distillation equipment, this partnership is the perfect match of tradition and innovation.

Visitors to the awe-inspiring new building will gain insight into the distillation process from start to finish, while ending their experience in one of the tasting bars or restaurant.
