NSF International, an independent global organization that writes public health standards and tests and certifies products for the food, water, and consumer goods industries, is now the preferred provider of sanitation certification services for Manitowoc Foodservice, a leading global foodservice equipment company.

NSF now provides sanitation certification for all 25 of Manitowoc’s foodservice equipment brands worldwide, which include a wide range of products such as ice, beverage, cooking, serving, warewashing, and sanitization equipment.

NSF International has developed national public health standards for commercial foodservice equipment, and tested and certified equipment to ensure it complies with these standards, since its founding in 1944. Most state and local health departments require that food service establishments use equipment certified to these NSF American National Standards.

By combining NSF International’s expertise in foodservice equipment sanitation and Manitowoc’s leadership in equipment manufacturing, the two organizations are helping to provide safer, higher quality foodservice equipment to companies worldwide.

To earn NSF foodservice equipment certification, NSF audits the manufacturing facility and conducts an evaluation of the design and construction of Manitowoc’s products. The evaluation includes testing to verify material safety and to determine that the material does not leach harmful chemicals into food, as well as performance testing to verify that the product performs as advertised. NSF also conducts annual unannounced facility audits to verify continual compliance to the program.

Products that earn NSF Foodservice Equipment Certification can bear the NSF Mark. The NSF Mark on Manitowoc Foodservice products signifies to customers and regulators that their products have been tested and certified to the highest standards by an independent third-party and also comply with the applicable regulatory requirements for foodservice equipment.

“Selecting NSF International as our preferred certification provider lends even more credibility to the safety and reliability of our food equipment products,” says Tom Wooderson, director of global supply chain at Manitowoc Foodservice. “Additionally, this agreement allows for commercial efficiencies as we continue to grow our global business.”

“We are very pleased to enter into this important partnership with Manitowoc Foodservice,” says Sarah Krol, NSF general manager of food equipment. “This agreement reinforces NSF’s Food Equipment Certification program as one of the most widely known and respected certifications in the foodservice industry. NSF certification signals to customers and regulators that Manitowoc’s products have met the highest standards for foodservice equipment.”
