Upserve Launches First EMV Solution Designed for Restaurants
Upserve, the restaurant management platform, today announced the availability of its Breadcrumb EMV solution. The only EMV kit designed specifically for restaurants, Upserve provides restaurateurs peace of mind when collecting chip-enabled cards, limiting liability for fraudulent chargebacks while ensuring no disruption to customers’ current check delivery processes and waitstaff training.
EMV credit cards, which come with an embedded chip to reduce fraudulent activities, have quickly proliferated across the U.S. More than 600 million chip-enabled cards are in circulation within the country today. This change has important implications for restaurants as the liability for chargebacks over $25 for EMV-ready cards, that are processed without using a certified EMV reader, has shifted to the business rather than the issuing bank.
While restaurants need an EMV solution to avoid chargeback liability, many are wary of disrupting their current check delivery and collection practices. Upserve addressed these concerns head on by designing a solution with the restaurant in mind. The EMV solution is available for customers using Upserve Pro and Breadcrumb POS, giving restaurants the best of everything: a cloud-based point of sale, payments processing and critical insights on what’s driving guest loyalty, server performance, and more.
“Restaurants want to focus on hospitality, not liability,” says Rosie Atkins, VP of product at Upserve. “While accepting EMV cards is considered by many to be a must-have, restaurants don’t want to be forced into a product that doesn’t fit their needs. We’ve designed an affordable solution specifically for restaurateurs that covers them for the liability shift, while at the same time powering great service and delivering critical business insights. Our mission is to empower restaurants to concentrate on the guest experience and avoid costly distractions. Our approach to EMV is yet another step forward in delivering on that promise.”
Upserve’s restaurant-specific focus for EMV stands out in several key ways including:
Chip-and-signature support so there’s no change in how checks are delivered.
Support for on-screen signature, split payments, and mixed payments so restaurants get maximum flexibility for their service practices.
Post transaction and after close of day tipping support.
And Bluetooth pairing between Breadcrumb EMV readers and terminals so setup is fast and easy.
The Breadcrumb EMV kit is available for pre-order. Customers can find out more by visiting the Breadcrumb website or by requesting a demonstration.
