La Liste ranks 1,000 restaurants from around the globe.

Le Bernardin, fresh off its third Michelin Star for the 14th consecutive year, was named the No. 1 restaurant in the world by La Liste. The global restaurant guide, which debuted in 2015, said it provides “an objective and democratic ranking of the world’s most outstanding restaurants powered by a proprietary algorithm that gathers information from over 600 leading food guides, user-generated review sites and global publications such as The New York Times, Michelin Guide, TripAdvisor, and more.” La Liste ranks 1,000 restaurants.

Commentary directly from restaurant guests is also weighed within the algorithm. Based in Paris, La Liste reviews nearly 16,000 restaurants from 180-plus countries on five continents.

The New York City restaurant tied with Restaurant Guy Savoy in Paris atop this year’s rankings. It is one of three Big Apple spots in the top 10 (Eleven Madison Park and Jean-Georges are the others) and only one of nine U.S.-based eateries in the top 100.

“We are delighted to be recognized by La Liste. It’s a great motivation for the team, who work so hard throughout the year to deliver a special experience to our guests time and time again,” chef and co-owner Eric Ripert said in a statement.

Le Bernardin was also ranked No. 26 on this year’s World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. The acclaimed restaurant was opened 1986 by Maguay and her brother, Gilbert, after a successful location in Paris. It has garnered five consecutive four-star reviews from The New York Times.

Ripert told The New York Times he was “pleased that a French organization has recognized an American restaurant, that the United States is at the top.”

Japan had the most restaurants with 149. China had 143. There were 116 restaurant from France, and 91 from the U.S.

Eleven Madison Park held the third-place spot in a tie with four other restaurants, including Thomas Keller’s French Laundry.

Due to ties, there are actually 50 restaurants in the top 10. U.S. venues include: Jean-Georges and Blue Hill at Stone Barns from New York; the Inn at Little Washington in Virginia; and California’s the Restaurant at Meadowood.
