Buzzy's BBQ To Start Franchising
Buzzy’s BBQ, the acclaimed Kerrville, Texas, restaurant named one of the top 50 barbecue spots in the state by Texas Monthly, is now legally authorized to begin selling franchise locations.
Charter Franchise Group began the extensive process of creating the franchise late last year.
The famed barbecue destination in central Texas owned by Kerrville native Harold E. “Buzzie” Hughes and his wife Brenda opened its doors 18 years ago. Hughes transformed an old grocery and feed store located in Comfort, Texas, into a barbecue restaurant then five years later, in January 1998, he expanded into Kerrville, Texas, in the heart of the Hill Country. His business grew along with his reputation.
The Hughes have been successful and describe their barbecue as “taste-bud-pleasing, home-boy barbecue.” It is prepared over a mix of oak and mesquite wood, using spices that will stay a secret.
Founded by C. Keith Hudson, Charter Franchise Services is fast becoming the state’s go-to company for creating franchises. It is one of a very few full-service franchising companies in South and Midwest.
Among its current clients are La Paletera, with nearly three dozen locations open or under development in Texas and Louisiana; Burger House in Dallas; Wing It Wings of El Paso; and Luciano’s Express, a San Antonio concept with thirteen locations.
The company has just completed franchising Digg’s Tacos, a new Dallas brisket taco concept by Jeff Payne of the legendary Cousin’s BBQ family and Joey Milan, a veteran Fort Worth restaurateur, partner in Cousin’s and one of the founders of Cabo’s in Houston.
Hudson is one of a select group of national business men and women to achieve the title of certified franchise executive through the prestigious Institute of Certified Franchise Executives. He currently serves on the IFA’s Franchise Political Action Committee and on its membership committee.
