Umami Burger announced the latest collaboration in its Artist Series, The Alton Burger by Alton Brown, of which a portion of the sale of each burger will benefit Make-A-Wish.

“Alton Brown changed the way we, as a culture, think and talk about food,” says Adam Fleischman, founder of Umami Burger.  “Alton’s personality and unique point-of-view is reflected in every layer of The Alton Burger.”

The Alton Burger by Alton Brown is a tribute to a classic southern breakfast. The Alton Burger has a special beef patty made with Umami Burger’s signature beef blend mixed with bacon lardons. The Alton Burger is topped with cheddar cheese, miso-maple bacon, smashed cheesy tots, a fried egg, fried sage, and a house-made coffee ketchup.

Once the Alton Burger is delivered to the table, a knife will be plunged down through the fried egg so that the egg yolk can run down into the lower layers. The Alton Burger is available for $14 at participating Umami Burger locations nationwide.

The Alton Burger also has a choice of recommended beverage pairings furthering the breakfast theme. The Samuel Adams Nitro Coffee Stout is available at all participating Umami Burger locations nationwide. The Ryes & Grind Cocktail is only available at select Umami Burger locations. The Ryes & Grind is mixed with High West Double Rye, Fernet Branca, a house-made Real Sugar Pepsi demerara syrup, Stumptown cold brew coffee and bitters, garnished with a Maraschino Cherry wrapped in an orange peel.

“It is my theory that humans evolved craving glutamic acid, the key molecule that triggers Umami on our tongues. Umami Burger’s mission is to create great food that takes advantage of this satisfying and mysterious molecule,” Brown adds. “The Alton Burger is an homage to my favorite meal, breakfast, which can be consumed at any time of day.”

One dollar from each Alton Burger sold from March 14 to April 24 will be donated to Make-A-Wish. Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.  Kids say a wish-come-true gives them renewed strength to fight their illness, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family. With the help of generous donors and more than 28,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish serves children in every community in the U.S. and its territories and has granted more than 270,000 wishes since its inception in 1980.

Umami Burger creates unique burgers highlighting the fifth savory taste sense called, umami. Just like sweet, sour, salty, and bitter, Umami is a taste sensation found in certain ingredients that helps make a meal even more enjoyable.  Umami Burger produces all of its own condiments, cheeses, and grinds its meat in-house throughout the day. All of the beef burgers are made with hand-ground, hand-formed premium steak. The result is a sophisticated, tightly edited selection of burgers, sides, and accompaniments.
