On The Border

If you’re the kind of person who challenges your friends to a taco-eating contest, look no further than On The Border this National Taco Day (Wednesday). The chain is offering unlimited 50-cent mini crispy tacos all day, as well as 20 percent off all taco catering orders placed through October 8. Guests may choose from classic Ground Beef, savory Chicken Tinga, or Veggie mini tacos.

“Tacos have been one of the core favorites on our menu since 1982, and we’ve never stopped bringing guests more tasty, authentic ways to enjoy them,” says Ashley Zickefoose, chief marketing officer for On The Border. “It all comes down to fresh, quality ingredients, made in house to deliver that signature ‘crunch’ and zesty Mexican flavor guests love.”

October is also the month that OTB is celebrating its 35th birthday with a Birthday “Rita. The festive margarita is made with Altos Plata Tequila, Grand Marnier, triple sec, and fresh citrus sweet & sour, served in a traditional margarita glass with a colorful birthday-sprinkle rim.

Taco Bell

Of course the YUM! Brands giant has something planned for National Taco Day. For one day only, customers can order a $5 box of tacos. It comes with four classic tacos, including a crunchy taco, Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos tacos, Cool Ranch Doritos Locos tacos, and a Fiery Doritos Locos tacos. They will be presented in a gift-wrapped box with National Taco Day stamped as a special label. Taco Bell’s site even has a countdown to the day, naturally.

In addition, Taco Bell unveiled a giant talking taco named El Cruncho and Chef Glen to talk about origins of the holiday. Check the link here.

“With calendars now awash in every manner of ‘hashtag holiday,’ we know that National Taco Day stands apart, and we want to help our fans embrace the true holiday spirit with an array of new traditions,” says Marisa Thalberg, chief marketing officer at Taco Bell Corp. “At this time I want to personally wish our fans a hearty ‘Seasoned Beefings,’ and a very happy National Taco Day to all.”

Taco John's

Was there any question the creators of “Taco Tuesday” would honor a day dedicated to their namesake? While Wednesday, the brand is still rolling out the taco red carpet, offering free tacos, crispy or hard shell, to any guest. To redeem the deal, diners must present a coupon available from the chain’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat pages, as well as its website.

“There’s no better place to celebrate National Taco Day than Taco John’s,” says Tom Meyer, Taco John’s vice president of marketing. “We’ve built our entire brand around our great tacos because they are simply the best tacos around. We invite our fans and newcomers alike to take advantage of this special offer—giving us the honor of celebrating right along with them.”

Tijuana Flats

The fast casual brand is celebrating the occasion with $2 tacos and $2 Mexican drafts at its locations in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, North Carolina, and Virginia. In South Carolina the deal is only available from 4–8 p.m.

The Taco Day special features the traditional Tijuana Flats taco, which includes a protein option (chicken, beef, steak, refried or black beans) and choice of toppings (jalapenos, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and cheese) piled on a hard corn, soft flour, or wheat tortilla, and served with chips.

“National Taco Day is a special event for us, and there is no better way to commemorate this holiday than by celebrating it with our guests,” says Larry Ryback, chief executive officer at Tijuana Flats. “The taco is a staple on our menu and has always been a fan favorite, and we love giving the people what they want. Namely, more tacos.”

Taco Bueno

A free crispy beef taco awaits all guests at Taco Bueno.

“We are in high taco season, both on and off the field. It only makes sense to give back to the Bueno customers on the most anticipated holiday of the year,” says Sarah Beddoe, CMO.

This isn’t the only taco deal going down for the brand.

Last month, Taco Bueno unveiled its popular new $5 Box. This combination box comes with two options:

The $5 Muchaco Box includes one beef muchaco, one party crispy beef taco, one party bean burrito, one small bag of chips and queso, and a small drink.

The $5 Combo Burrito Box includes one combo burrito, one party crispy beef taco, one party burrito, small chips and queso, and a small drink.

For gameday, Taco Bueno created the Wholotta Tailgate box. Each box includes eight Crispy Beef Party Tacos or eight Chicken or Beef Taquitos, four large bags of chips and five large dips, including queso, refried beans, jalapeno ranch, firehouse salsa and Taco Bueno’s signature red salsa.

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop

Fuzzy’s is offering $1 tacos all day long. The deal includes most Baja Tacos, including breakfast tacos. Guests can choose from a crunchy or soft shell, or combine the two. Last year’s most popular $1 taco on National Taco Day was the shredded chicken taco, followed by the special ground beef taco, the brand says.

The fajita, shrimp, and “California Heat” tacos are not included in the National Taco Day promotion, nor are to-go orders.

Fuzzy Taco Shop’s signature Baja Tacos are served on the guests’ choice of a soft or crispy shell, and consist of the diner’s choice of protein, including chicken, brisket, ground beef, pork, veggies, grilled or tempura fish, grilled or tempura shrimp, fajita chicken, or fajita beef, and topped with garlic sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, cilantro and feta. Fuzzy’s breakfast tacos feature the guest’s choice of eggs, bacon, cheese, potatoes, chorizo and shrimp.

Jimboy’s Tacos

Jimboy’s is going BOGO for National Taco Day, up to three per guest, all day long. The deal is being offered on deal on its best-selling Original Ground Beef Taco.

“Talk to any Jimboy’s fan, no matter how long it’s been since their first visit, and they’ll be able to tell you all about the time they first bit into our signature taco. We call it the Jimboy’s moment and it happens with every guest,” says Karen Freeman, president of Jimboy’s Tacos. “But, you really have to taste a Jimboy’s taco for yourself to understand what our fans are talking about. No one should have to go without experiencing Jimboy’s, so we encourage longtime patrons and new guests alike to come in on National Taco Day and have their very own Jimboy’s moment.”

Jimboy’s has been serving its famous tacos since 1954. Made with fresh, never frozen, seasoned ground beef, hand-grated American cheese, and crisp lettuce all encased in a crunchy stoneground corn tortilla that’s dusted with parmesan cheese, the Original Ground Beef Taco has been a fan favorite since day one. As part of the National Taco Day BOGO deal, the Jimboy’s Bean Taco, a vegetarian version of the brand’s signature taco, will also be offered.

California Tortilla

The brand, with more than 50 locations across six states and Washington, D.C., is offering BOGO tacos all day long. There’s a limit of five tacos per guess (for a total of 10).

Options include Blackened Fish, California Sunset, Crunchy BBQ Ranch, and more.

El Pollo Loco

El Pollo Loco is also getting in the BOGO spirit with buy one, get one taco platters. To earn the deal, guests must download a coupon and show it at the restaurant. Not a bad tradeoff.
